The Kirkland Oktoberfest planning committee is kicking off the season of giving by donating its $17,000 in proceeds to several charitable organizations based in Kirkland. This three-day authentic German beer festival, held on the final weekend of September in Marina Park, drew thousands of enthusiastic participants, and raised more money for local nonprofits than any other festival of its kind this year.
“Kirkland Oktoberfest is run mainly by volunteers and they work hard to bring a quality festival to Kirkland,” said Kirkland Oktoberfest Planning Committee member Michelle Sailor.” These volunteers help to maintain its local connections to the community which gives Kirkland Oktoberfest a unique friendly atmosphere. It has been very gratifying to be part of the planning committee from the inception and watch Oktoberfest grow and improve to become a signature event in Kirkland. I am especially proud of the money that has been raised for local charities.”
At its core, Kirkland Oktoberfest exists to bring the community together to participate in a fun event while raising money for local charities. This year, the planning committee was able to donate $17,000 to these nonprofits: American Cancer Society, Eastside Timebank, Imagine Housing, Kirkland Downtown Association, MEOW Cat Rescue, Rotary Club of Kirkland Downtown, and Sibling House.
“MEOW Cat Rescue was thrilled and so grateful to be a part of this event this year,” said MEOW Cat Rescue Board President Joni Cervenka. “Thanks to the great success of the festival, and subsequent very generous donation, we will be able to increase our public spay/neuter voucher program fund and provide for the care of so many residents in the coming year.”
Kirkland Oktoberfest had more than 450 volunteers this year.
