The Rebels know what to expect from senior guard Tea Adams — the mystery is what to expect from the rest of the squad.
The Juanita High girls basketball team dropped a nonconference game to Edmonds-Woodway, 59-55, on Monday at the Juanita Fieldhouse. Adams scored a career-high 36 points despite sitting for most of the first quarter with two fouls, but the San Diego State commit was the only player in double figures for Juanita.
Jayla Kidd finished with five points and Tara Rouholfada had four.
“It was fun to watch [Adams] play, we just need to do a bit more in support for her,” Juanita coach Todd Brink said. “Again, our free throws are hurting us and our shooting percentage needs to get better, but our effort after the first quarter was great. I can’t fault their effort at all.”
The Rebels (1-2) trailed 17-3 at the end of the first quarter, but threw out a zone defense and rallied in the second quarter for a respectable halftime score.
“They were beating us in transition, so we had to do something to slow that down,” Brink said. “We couldn’t guard [Woodway senior Missy Peterson] very well, so we wanted to make her pass the ball instead of hold the ball and limit her scoring opportunity.”
A three-pointer late in the third quarter from Adams tied the game at 43, the first tie since the teams were square at 3-3 early in the game. Adams hit again from distance early in the fourth quarter to give Juanita a 46-43 lead, but the Warriors went on a 12-2 run to put the game out of reach.
Peterson led the Warriors with 19 points. Ingrid Fosberg scored 10 and Adrienne Poling scored nine.
Next, Juanita is scheduled to open KingCo play against Mercer Island at 6 p.m. on Dec. 9 at the Juanita Fieldhouse. The Islanders are 2-0 with wins over Kings and Sammamish.
