All Kirkland public schools in the Lake Washington School District are closed today, Tuesday, Feb. 7, due to inclement weather and icy road conditions, according to administration officials.
There will also be no preschool, no before school extended day, no Pull-out Quest and no out of district transportation.
Officials put out a notice late Monday night that school would start two-hours late but reassessed the situation early Tuesday morning and canceled classes.
The cancelation comes following the district’s closure on Monday due to a snow storm that hit the greater Puget Sound area late Sunday night and most of the day on Monday. The storm blanketed Kirkland with between 2-6 inches of snow depending on elevation.
Eastside Prep in Kirkland will remain closed on Tuesday, while Kirkland Seventh Day Adventist/Puget Sound Adventist will also start two-hours late.
The Lake Washington Institute of Technology, which closed on Monday as well, will be open during its normal hours on Tuesday. However, according to the school’s website, Feb. 7 was already scheduled to be an advising day with no classes scheduled.
The snow storm also knocked out power to more than 1,600 customers in Finn Hill in Kirkland around 1:30 p.m. on Monday. The power was restored around 6 p.m. by Puget Sound Energy crews.
