A Kirkland dentist pleaded not-guilty to assault and weapons charges stemming from a late-night incident in December on Wednesday at the King County Courthouse in Seattle.

According to prosecutors, Thomas Seal, 64, became irritated with customers outside Juanita Pub during the early hours of Dec. 28, 2016. Seal pointed his pistol at a man from the second floor of his practice, Kirkland Dental Care, and yelled at the man.

After law enforcement arrived, Seal stated he had only pointed a laser at the victim. Police couldn’t get the laser to work, and the victim was able to identify Seal’s handgun and laser color.

Seal was charged with second-degree assault and unlawful discharge of a laser. Seal posted bail on Feb. 24, and remains active at his practice.

The case setting hearing is scheduled for March 22 at the King County Courthouse in Seattle.

Assault in the second degree, which includes threat of harm, is a Class B felony and carries a maximum sentence of 12 months in prison and a fine of up to $20,000.
