CenterCal is moving right along with the construction of the Village at Totem Lake, with some retail tenants set to open their new locations this summer.

“We’re really excited about the construction and its progress,” CenterCal CEO Fred Bruning said.

So construction crews can tear down the remaining buildings in the east section of the old Totem Lake Malls, an emphasis was put on completing the new Trader Joe’s and Wells Fargo spaces, allowing those businesses to relocate without interrupting service to their customers.

“We had to have their new homes ready,” Bruning said, adding the new locations would be open this summer, in June or July, with more of the retail tenants to follow as other buildings in the development are completed.

All of phase one of the construction, which started in June 2016, will be complete in mid-2018, including some of the 855 planned residential units, ready for tenants to move into their new homes.

“In spite of the rain we’ve been having up there … we’re actually beating our schedule,” Bruning said, adding some of the other phase one tenants will likely open this year as well.

The retail space for phase two is scheduled to be finished in spring or summer of 2018, and the phase two residential space will be completed in 2019.

Other retail tenants for the Village at Totem Lake include Whole Foods Market, Nordstrom Rack, Ross, Auto Zone, Mod Pizza and Chipotle. In total, the development includes more than 360,000 square feet of residential and retail space.

“We’re looking forward to bringing some wonderful new names and faces to Kirkland,” Bruning said.

When asked about competition for tenants with Kirkland Urban and other developments in the area, Bruning said it wasn’t an issue, adding the accessibility to Interstate 405 has been a huge draw for tenants to the Village at Totem Lake.

“We’ve been really pleased with the response we’ve had (from tenants),” he said.

Bruning said they plan to have two grand opening events for the development, one in mid-2018 when phase one is complete, and the other when phase two is complete in 2019. He added that several of the individual businesses are also planning to have their own grand opening events.

“There will be a lot of room for parties in Kirkland with our project,” Bruning said.
