We are not all immigrants

I commend Bill Webb’s May 12 letter in the Kirkland Reporter for its succinct and cogent detailing of the many assaults to our freedoms by the bubble elites. It reveals that there are some patriots on the Eastside who are attempting to counter the dark forces of socialism that is engulfing the Seattle/Kirkland area.

I will include another irritating issue they propound. In the televised May Day parade a young woman carried a sign claiming that “Everyone in this country is an immigrant.” Later, another protester alleged that Indians (American Indians, I assume) are also immigrants because they came from Asia. With statements like these, the socialist elites are trying to shame the rest of us for supporting deportation of persons who come into our country illegally.

Both statements are false. Webster’s Collegiate Dictionary defines “immigrant” as “a person who comes to a country to take up permanent residence.” I was born in the United States as were approximately 300 million others. Although our forefathers immigrated to America, we arrived here by birth not by crossing the borders. Therefore, by definition and fact, we are not immigrants. The elites should stop trying to force that narrative on the public.
