Friday’s Art Walk will transform park lane into pedestrian promenade

Park Lane will become a pedestrian promenade closed to vehicles for the Kirkland Art Walk from 3-9 p.m. today.

“We designed Park Lane to be a centerpiece of a livable, walkable downtown,” said Mayor Amy Walen. “We’re excited to see how this pilot works in partnership with one of our community’s beloved events, the Kirkland Art Walk.”

Converting Park Lane to a pedestrian promenade for the Art Walk will serve as a trial run for the city to determine the suitability of closing the street for other temporary events.

Residents provided widespread support for closing Park Lane for festivals, fairs and markets during the Park Lane redesign process.

Signs will be posted on Park Lane on Friday indicating the closure.

The Kirkland Art Walk is a free community event featuring local and regional artists, live music performances and cultural offerings. The Kirkland Art Walk occurs the second Friday of every month and has been happening for over 25 years. More information can be found at the event’s website, kirklandartwalk.com.
