Northwest University men’s soccer scores shutout victory against Multnomah

The Northwest University Eagles men’s soccer team scored four second-half goals for a 4-0 shutout victory over Multnomah University on Friday at Delta Park.

After a defensive battle in the first half in which neither team would be able to score, the Eagles broke the game open in the second half with a little help from the Lions.

Alex Ballard put the Eagles into the lead in the 61st minute as he scored off a corner kick as his ball was deflected across the line for the unassisted goal.

At the 74:16 mark, NU got some help from Multnomah as the Lions inadvertently scored an own goal after offensive pressure by the Eagles. Less than six minutes later, Lucas Alves scored from 30 yards out in the right corner after a short run with the ball.

Alves, a junior from Sáo Paulo, Brazil, scored his second goal at 83:32 on a penalty kick to make it a 4-0 game as the Eagles would go on to earn the shutout.

NU (6-3-1, 4-1-1 Cascade Collegiate Conference) dominated the game offensively with a 26-3 shot margin including 11 shots on goal. Alves led with nine shots, two shots on goal and the two goals. Jordan Travis took five shots, two shots on goal. Daniel Christenson earns the shutout, making two saves for the game.
