Local marijuana business Higher Leaf is teaming up with the Kirkland nonprofit Attain Housing to help alleviate some of the pressures facing homeless families.

Molly Honig, co-founder of Higher Leaf, is passionate about looking for ways to give back to the Kirkland and Bellevue area.

“It’s a powerful thing to be able to create something that puts jobs into the community,” she said in a press release. “We wanted to continue to support our local area in even more tangible ways and we’re thrilled that our partnership with Attain Housing allows us to do that.”

According to the release, Attain Housing’s mission is to bring the community together by partnering with homeless families and providing affordable housing while empowering them with practical case management and hope. To help support this mission, Higher Leaf is accepting new household goods at both their Kirkland and Bellevue locations through Nov. 30.

The drive kicked off at the beginning of the month and is already going strong, the release states.

Lizzie Maslen, Higher Leaf’s human resources specialist, has been overwhelmed by the response so far.

“We’ve far surpassed the drive we did last year,” she said in the release. “The outpouring of support from our community has been overwhelming and speaks to the palpable sense of compassion, charity, and goodness that shines through in our customer base.”

For the drive, Higher Leaf is collecting the following items:

Shampoo/conditioner, body wash, lotion, hand soap, sponges, paper towels, toilet paper, household cleaners, diapers/wipes, new towels, school supplies, feminine supplies and new queen and twin sheet sets.

Items can be dropped off at either Higher Leaf location in Bellevue (3079 156th Ave. S.E.) or Kirkland (12525 Willows Rd. N.E., Ste. 10).

Both shops are open 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. seven days a week.
