Kirkland police respond to disturbance, shoot and kill armed male suspect

A Kirkland police officer shot and killed an armed male suspect while responding to a disturbance at the Emerson Apartments Tuesday evening.

The incident took place at 4:21 p.m. in the 11000 block of Northeast 124th Lane. The suspect, who was armed with a rifle, died at the scene despite attempts to save him. The officer was not injured.

According to a Kirkland Police Department press release, officers responded to multiple 911 calls of a disturbance. Upon arrival, they confronted a male armed with an assault rifle.

During this confrontation, a Kirkland officer shot the suspect. The release states that the officers on scene immediately began giving first aid to the injured suspect but were unable to save his life.

“The involved officer is understandably shaken, but is not injured,” according to the release.

There are no additional suspects at large and the area is once again safe for the residents.

As per established protocol and policy, KPD requested the assistance of the King County Sheriff’s Office. King County Major Crimes Unit arrived on scene and has assumed responsibility of this investigation, according to the release.

At about 7:40 p.m. Tuesday, the KPD Twitter page posted, “The Kirkland Police would like to thank all of our residents for their continued support and cooperation. Police will be in the are a while longer conducting the investigation. There is no further danger at this time.”

In the release, Kirkland Police Chief Cherie Harris wishes to thank the many residents who called the police during this emergency and for their continued support and cooperation during this investigation.
