For many people, the holiday season starts on Halloween. The Kiwanis Club of Kirkland’s Builders Club and Key Clubs started their holiday season with giving — by Trick or Treating for UNICEF.

The money they raised will go directly to UNICEF for vaccines that will help to eliminate neonatal tetanus, a deadly disease that steals the lives of nearly 34,000 babies and a significant number of women in underprivileged countries each year. UNICEF has made great strides in eliminating this disease, but there are still about 16 countries that need their help.

The young people in Kiwanis-sponsored programs in Kirkland, along with other youth of Kiwanis internationally, have been committed to this project for many years. This year, KCK Key Clubs and Builders Club raised a total of $1,264 and that amount will be matched by the Kirkland Kiwanis Foundation. More than $2,500 will go directly to UNICEF. KCK Clubs involved include Lake Washington High School Key Club, Juanita High School Key Club, International Community School Key Club and Kirkland Middle School Builders Club.
