Lake Washington Institute of Technology was recently listed as King County’s leading provider of associate degree graduates in health professions, according to the 2016-17 “Program Focus by College” report by the Washington State Board for Community and Technical Colleges.
The report also found LWTech to be the third largest supplier of associate degree health professionals in Washington during the same academic year.
According to a press release, graduates of these associate degree programs make up health care professionals such as nurses, medical assistants, dental hygienists occupational therapists, fitness specialists and personal trainers, physical therapists and those who work in funeral homes and social and human services. As a leader in student completion rates for these programs, LWTech is filling the skills gap and meeting the demand for trained health care professionals in King County and beyond, the release states.
Students earning their associate degree at LWTech not only have a higher potential to earn more money and further their career, but they can move up the education ladder as well, according to the release. All of LWTech’s associate degrees are accredited and transferable so students can continue on to earn their bachelor’s degree, either at LWTech or another institution.
“There continues to be a great demand for skilled health care workers in King County,” said LWTech President Dr. Amy Morrison Goings in the release. “LWTech’s focus on completion is reflected in the number of students who earn their associate degree and either continue on towards a bachelor degree or go right into the workforce.”
LWTech currently offers nine associate degree programs in health profession fields, including health sciences, medical assisting, nursing, occupational therapy assistant, dental assistant, funeral service education, fitness specialist/personal trainer, physical therapist assistant and social and human services. The college also offers a bachelor’s of applied science degree in public health as well as dental hygiene.
