Kirkland softball Majors All Stars win state title

The Kirkland softball Majors All Star team won the state tournament Friday night.

The Kirkland softball Majors All Star team won the state tournament on Friday, July 15. The team beat Woodinville 11-0 to advance to the regional tournament in California next week.

The team, which includes girls from both the Kirkland National and Kirkland American Little Leagues, advanced to the final after beat East Jefferson 11-3 on Wednesday night.

The tournament, held in Woodinville, saw the Kirkland All Stars start the Wednesday evening off with a strong first inning, score five runs off walks. In the second East Jefferson, a team from the Port Townsend area, scored three in the bottom of the first, off a triple and two singles.

Kirkland’s Clare Sovacool continued a strong state batting run, hitting a home run during the third inning.

All six innings were pitched by Lisa Nelson, who allowed three runs on four hits and three walks. She struck out six in the game. Sovacool was 3-3 with a single, double and the home run. Brynn Radke was 2-3 during the game.

The final state game will be held on Friday, starting at 5:30 p.m. at the Northshore Athletic Fields in Woodinville. The team will play the winner of the Woodinville vs. East Jefferson game.

The winner of the state tournament will move on to the Little League Western Region tournament, held in San Bernardino, Calif. the weekend of July 24.

Kirkland National advances in boys Majors district tournament

The Kirkland National Little League Majors team advance Wednesday evening to the district quarterfinals, after beating cross town rivals Kirkland American.

The two teams with the most home runs during the tournament this spring, faced off, with Kirkland National taking the 4-1 win.

Tristan Morgan had two home runs during the game, while Casey Nelson added another for the team. Jake Steele slammed a home run for Kirkland American.

Kirkland National will now play Bellevue West in the quarterfinals. That game will be held on Saturday, July 16 at 6 p.m. at Hartman Park in Redmond. Kirkland American will play the winner of the Mercer Island vs. Redmond North game on Friday, July 15 at 6 p.m., also at Hartman Park.

The winner of the District 9 tournament will earn a spot in the state competition, with a shot to attend the regional competition in California.
