Waste Management, Inc. has resumed normal curbside garbage and recycling pickup for City of Kirkland residents and businesses. For those City residents who would like to dispose of extra garbage and recycling before the next scheduled pick up date, such items can be dropped off at the temporary site available at Kirkland City Hall, 123 5th Avenue, (side parking lot) beginning Tuesday, Dec. 30, through Friday, Jan. 2, 2009. Yard waste will not be accepted.
Because of the recent extreme winter weather conditions and dangerous road conditions, Waste Management collection operations were suspended for City of Kirkland customers on Dec. 18. Most residential City customers have missed one week of service. The City of Kirkland contracts with Waste Management Inc. for garbage and recycling collection.
For those City customers whose regularly scheduled pick up day is Thursday, Jan. 1 (New Year’s Day holiday), collection will occur on Friday, Jan. 2. For those City customers whose regularly scheduled pick up day is Friday, Jan. 2, collection will occur on Saturday, Jan. 3.
For those residential garbage and recycling customers who wish to wait for the next scheduled pick up, Waste Management offers the following tips to manage extra garbage and recycling:
Extra garbage: Place next to garbage container in a securely tied plastic bags labeled “garbage,” or a 32-gallon can with handle and lid (65 pound limit) labeled “garbage.”
Extra recycling: Place next to recycling cart in plastic recycling bins or cardboard boxes (2x2x2 feet limit) labeled “recycling. No recycling plastic bags.
Extra yard trimmings (no food scraps or plastic): Place next to yard cart in heavy paper yard bags (available at hardware stores) or reusable polywoven yard bags (available at hardware stores), or 32-gallon cans with handles and lids (65 pound limit) labeled “yard”; or bundles tied with sisal twine (4’x2′ limit).
