EvergreenHealth is pleased to welcome neurosurgeon Dr. Emun Abdu to EvergreenHealth Spine and Neurosurgical Care. Dr. Abdu brings extensive experience in vascular neurosurgery and brain and spine disorders.
In addition to providing comprehensive neurological care, Dr. Abdu is one of very few U.S. board-certified neurosurgeons with the surgical capabilities to provide patients the option of traditional surgical or minimally invasive endovascular treatment. Patients with complex neurovascular diseases, such as brain aneurysms, often benefit from her wide breadth of treatment options.
“EvergreenHealth Spine & Neurosurgical Care is proud to welcome top neurosurgeon Dr. Emun Abdu to our team of talented spinal care specialists,” said EvergreenHealth CEO Bob Malte in a press release. “Her extensive neurosurgical experience will contribute to our goals of providing the least invasive and most effective treatment methods for neck and back pain to improve patients’ quality of life.”
Prior to joining EvergreenHealth, Dr. Abdu served as director of cerebrovascular surgery at Carondelet Neurological Institute and its partner, Western Neurosurgery, in southern Arizona. She also provided both neurosurgery and neuroendovascular services for acute stroke at the St. Joseph Hospital emergency room in Tucson. She was well-known by the local media for performing complex and lifesaving neurological procedures for patients throughout the region.
An expert in neurosurgical care, Abdu credits her success to a multidisciplinary team approach, utilizing the cooperation of several medical specialties. She works very closely with neurologists, neuroradiologists and other clinical subspecialists to deliver comprehensive methods of treatment that are tailored to each patient’s condition. Abdu is not only focused on the technical aspects of neurosurgery, but also strives to create a level of trust and comfort when caring for patients. She often encourages her patients to bring their family members into the conversation, acting as a partner and advocate throughout the entire care process.
Abdu earned her medical degree from University of Michigan and completed her residency in neurological surgery at Oregon Health and Sciences University. She then received combined open microvascular and endovascular fellowship training at Swedish Neurosciences Institute, where she authored a clinical research paper on minimally invasive treatment for intracerebral hemorrhage in The Journal of Neurosurgery.
Abdu is a member of the Congress of Neurological Surgeons, the Society of Neurointerventional Surgery, the Ethiopian North American Medical Society, and Women in Neurological Surgery and serves on the board of the Tucson chapter of the American Heart Stroke Association.
EvergreenHealth Spine & Neurosurgical Care offers a full range of treatment options for conditions that cause spine and neck pain.
