Troopers seek hit and run suspect, call on public for help

The Washington State Patrol asked locals for any information to identify the vehicle and suspect.

The Washington State Patrol is investigating a hit and run incident and is asking King County residents to assist in identifying the suspect vehicle.

Troopers received reports of a person in the roadway of northbound I-5 on Aug. 9 at about 5:50 a.m. near the Northeast 85th Street interchange in Seattle. The victim had reportedly jumped off the 5th Avenue Northeast overpass, was struck by a silver vehicle and did not survive.

Detectives suspect that the victim purposefully jumped into the roadway, but could not confirm this, due to incomplete information.

A passing driver happened to record part of the incident and provided the dash cam footage to troopers. Troopers tweeted out images of the suspected vehicle Friday afternoon and detectives are seeking any information that would help identify the vehicle and driver.

“The detective spent a while enhancing that photo,” WSP trooper Rick Johnson said. “And we were hoping someone would come forward but no one has yet.”

Any person with information should contact detective Vik Mauro at 425-401-7746 or by email at victoria.mauro@wsp.wa.gov.
