Juanita’s volleyball squad qualified for districts with a 3-0 win over Mercer Island in the 3A KingCo tournament on Nov. 1.

After losing in four games to Bellevue on Oct. 30, Juanita coach Alyx Fuller said the Rebels came alive and emerged victorious.

“Overall, the team did a fantastic job. They weren’t going to let anything get in the way of their goal to making it to the SeaKing,” Fuller said. “Every girl, on and off the court, did a great job with talking on serve receive and celebrating every play. The energy in the gym was electric.”

Juanita’s comeback win in set one against Mercer Island was epic.

The Rebels were down 24-19 with the serve in hand and grinded back to win, 26-24.

According to Fuller, key players in the win were setter Emily Mikiska, outsides Carly Bacher and Guen Smith hammering kill after kill, middles Jayla Kidd and Victoria Anderer with solid blocks and kills, right side hitter Belle Jordan (who had only played there in one other game) hitting a .500 and libero Bella Uttech reading the hitters well and making copious great plays.

The Rebels will play Ballard at 5:30 p.m. Nov. 8 at Lakeside High in the SeaKing tourney.

Lake Washington’s girls notched a pair of shutout wins in the first rounds, but Holy Names Academy downed the Kangs, 1-0, on Saturday to end the locals’ season in a 3A KingCo-Metro pigtail game to qualify for state.

LW — which finished 10-6-2 overall — received three goals from Kelli McCarthy and one each from Allie Pollard and Taryn Chisholm in its wins over Bellevue (2-0) and Juanita (3-0). Emma Eschbach, Ellie Pederson, Haimanot Hanson and Abby Nikfard supplied assists.
