The Lake Washington girls soccer team beat Mount Si in an overtime win on Tuesday, Sept. 21 before losing to Liberty on Sept. 23.
During the match against Mount Si, the Kangs were on pace to score, based on shots on goal, but could never connect the final pieces to earn a point. Heading into overtime, with a 0-0 tie, the Kangs found a split second opening when Jessie Zogg passed to Tory Varyu, who crossed the ball into the box, where Emma Holm was waiting to recover it from a Wildcat defender for the goal.
Against Liberty on Sept. 23 Lake Washington started fast, scoring in the second minute of the game after Shelby Bergren was taken down by a defender on the 30-yard line. Holm took the free kick, setting it loose above the goalies head for the first goal of the game. The Patriots fought for the rest of the match, finally earning the tying goal in the 67th minute off a corner kick. Liberty earned the win 10 minutes later with a high ball to the right corner of the goal for the 2-1 final score.
