Coming into Tuesday evening’s game Mercer Island was in a tough spot. The Islanders had to get past the Rebels in order to secure their position in the KingCo tournament which beings next week. But the Rebels weren’t too keen on giving the game up easily. Despite their best efforts, Mercer Island won the game 1-0.

While the Rebels could have easily just sat back and let Mercer Island take control of the show, Juanita did the opposite, forcing the Islanders to earn the game winning goal and pushing the team for the entire 90 minute match.

The Rebels had strong changes in the first half, including a shot which bounced off the top bar of the Islanders goal, back into play before goalie James Suh rushed it, taking away the team’s best scoring chance of the night in the 23rd minute.

The team’s continued to battle, until the Islander’s Matt Johnson broke away and with a pass to Danny Strome gave the Islanders the game’s lone goal in the 38th minute of play.

After the half break Juanita surged, looking for any chance the team could get to score, but the team was never able to capitalize and turn the chances into goals.

The Rebels will travel to play Mount Si on Thursday in the team’s last games of the regular season. Juanita is currently 4-8-3 this season and is in 6th place in the KingCo 3A/2A league.
