District 9 host Eastlake Little League dropped into the consolation round after losing, 8-4, to the Southwest squad from Columbus Little League of Texas on Thursday at the Junior League Softball World Series at Everest Park in Kirkland. Eastlake (1-4) was the fourth seed in pool A and Columbus (4-1) was the top seed in pool B.
Eastlake bolted out to a 4-0 lead in the top of the third and Southwest tied it up in the bottom of the inning. Southwest tallied four more runs in the bottom of the fourth en route to the victory.
Leah Cupp had two hits and Rachael Carey had one hit for Eastlake, who will play at 4:30 p.m. Friday in a consolation game against Latin America (Soraida Juliana Little League of Willemstad, Curacao).
In Eastlake’s 6-4 win over Canada (Elnora Eagles Softball Little League of Alberta) on July 29, Malia Moriarity had two singles, Ava Grossi had an RBI single and Ava Steiner doubled. Grossi had two singles in Eastlake’s 5-4 eight-inning loss to the Southeast (Tampa Bay/Interbay Little Leagues of Florida) on July 31.
Cupp was 4-for-4 with two RBIs in the locals’ 14-6 loss to Central (Canfield/Poland Community Little Leagues of Ohio) on July 30. Moriarity tripled and scored to lead off the game.
Simryn Jawanda had a single and two RBIs in Eastlake’s 21-5 loss to Asia Pacific (Bulacan Little League of Norzagaray, Philippines) on July 28.
