Roy William Enberg of Kirkland, WA, died on January 20, 2020, at the age of 84 years. Roy was born February 5, 1935 in Anchorage, AK, lived in Seattle as a boy and young man, and moved to Kirkland in 1961 (when the population a little over 6,000).

Roy was a true 20th Century citizen of the West. Known as “Swede” by his buddies, Roy witnessed the world move from WWII into the jet age. He saw man land on the Moon, explore Mars, and create an information age. He carried the optimism of the Century 21 World’s Fair with him throughout his life.

Roy relished exploring open roads. Roy drove sports cars in his 20s, rode motorcycles in his 30s, and engineered epic road trips throughout the West as a family man. With his beloved wife Carolyn Jewell Enberg, Roy cruised and toured the world after he retired. Intellectually curious about every subject, he spent untold hours at the Kirkland Library, or at home, in his chair in the corner window, deep into a book about history, air planes or science. He equally loved anything by Isaac Asimov and vintage Mad Magazines.

Roy is lovingly remembered by his wife of 58 years, Carolyn Jewell Enberg of Kirkland, WA; sister Lillian Haynes of Kenmore, WA; sons Michael (Susan) of Kirkland, WA, and Craig (Guy) of Orange, CA; grandkids Gabriel and Marlo (who knew him as farfar) of Kirkland, WA, and loving nephews and nieces and other relatives, neighbors and co-workers at the Lake Washington School District. A memorial service will be scheduled at a later date for family and friends.
