Wow Wow Hawaiian Lemonades in Kirkland closed on Feb. 28, after being open for four years.
The restaurant, in Marina Park near downtown Kirkland, had waited to announce the news as there was a possibility of new ownership, according to a Facebook post from Wow Wow. It was the only location in Washington, with other locations in Arizona, Hawaii and Japan, as well as locations soon opening in New Mexico and California, according to the company website.
“We want to thank all of you who have stop by for your support these past four years since starting at the Kirkland Farmer’s Market. We were blessed to have such great employees many of whom were high school and college students from here in the area,” the company wrote on Facebook. “We hope we brought a little bit of Aloha here to Kirkland.”
Kayla Furtado, who had worked at Wow Wow for three years, said she will miss the environment and enjoyed the journey of working there.
“I’ve loved every second of it,” Furtado said. “I’m from Hawaii, so it’s like a nice place to come back and be home.”
Furtado said the owners — Terrence and Julianne Santos — had tried to sell the business, on behalf of all the regular customers they didn’t want to let down, but they were unsuccessful.
“The owners were looking to try something new, new business ventures, when they couldn’t find any buyers they decided to close,” Furtado said. She also said the Santoses were focusing on their new baby and a Filipino restaurant they helped open in Seattle.
Terrence and Julianne told the Reporter via Facebook messenger that they were unavailable for comment as they finished packing and preparing for a vacation.
