A DUI collision Monday evening caused extensive damage to a city art piece at David Brink Park.

“The Water Bearers” sculpture, a piece including three statues and a water feature, was broken to multiple pieces after a rollover collision, May 18. The driver was not injured, but was arrested by Kirkland Police Department for DUI.

The sculpture was purchased by Kirkland residents for the park. According to the Smithsonian Art Inventories Catalog, the sculpture depicts three Native American women standing in a realistic setting of rocks and grass.

Sadly the artist who created the sculptures, Glenna Goodacre, died earlier this year.

“There’s no replacing these statues,” Kellie Stickney, Kirkland communications manager, said.

Instead, the city will be exploring if the sculpture can be repaired.
