In an effort to make a difference, a local business owner has donated 25 face shields to The Sophia Way, an organization working to end homelessness for women in the region.

Greg Shugarts, owner of Kirkland FASTSIGNS, states he believes in supporting those in need in his local community.

“I created the face shields as a way for people to feel more comfortable when interacting with others,” Shugarts stated. “The face shields were a great way for our business to show our support and contribute in our own way.”

The Sophia Way shelters offer women a warm, safe space to take a shower, rest, and sleep, and meals. Case managers focus on their physical, mental and financial well-being and since 2008, Sophia Way has supported more than 4,000 women and helped many move into housing, serving an average between 80 and 110 women every day through their programs, according to a press release.

“We were thrilled to receive the donation of face shields,” Programs Manager at The Sophia Way Molly Bowen. “Some of our guests are unable to wear masks because of health issues and they were really happy to have the option of wearing a face shield to protect themselves at this time, during the pandemic. It also helps the staff to communicate better with guests who have hearing issues.”
