A water main break caused a loss of pressure in a large portion of Kirkland’s water system. The City has issued a boil water advisory for neighborhoods north of NE 85th St., south of NE 124th St., and west of I-405.

This affects City of Kirkland water customers only. Residents are advised to use bottled water or boil tap water and to follow protocols listed below. Residents are also advised that in the event that there is discolored water or air in the pipes, they should leave the faucet on or continue to flush until the water runs steady and clean.

Kirkland staff have repaired the water main and all water service has resumed. Crews will now work to clear the system of air by opening fire hydrants to flush the water lines. Crews will start low velocity flushing in the morning and samples will be taken in the afternoon.

Negative test results are required before the advisory can be lifted. The boil water advisory is in effect until further notice. The City of Kirkland will continue to post updates to the City of Kirkland website: www.kirklandwa.gov. Questions can be directed to 425-587-3900.

Boiling is the best way to ensure water is free of illness-causing organisms. Bring the water to a rolling boil for one minute. When it cools, refrigerate the water in clean covered containers. More information is available on the Public Health – Seattle & King County website.
