The Lake Washington boys basketball team beat Liberty on Monday evening, winning 55-45 over the Patriots.
The Kangs were up 15-5 at the end of the first quarter, followed by a 15-14 second quarter. The Patriots outscored Lake Washington in the third 17-15, but it wasn’t not enough for the home team to earn the win.
Darien Nelson-Henry hit 15 points during the match, while Guy Lynott posted 12, Cody Bernstein added nine and both Kelly Guy and Matt Staudacher had seven. Drew Heimdahl had five points.
Juanita lost to Sammamish on Monday, Jan. 30, going down 71-59.
Sammamish was up 29-24 at the half, with both teams scoring 11 in the second quarter. The Totems exploded to the basket in the third quarter, hitting 23 points, to effectively win the game, despite both teams hitting 19 in the final minutes.
Ryan Reid had 17 points during the loss, while Devan Jackson had 11, Trevor Andrews added nine and both Brett Hamre and Landyn Milburn had five points. Sean Brennan had four points, while both Ty Eng and Avery Britton had three, with Oren Shalev adding two.
The KingCo playoffs will begin on Monday, Feb. 6 with the top six teams making the post season. As of Tuesday, Jan. 30 Bellevue, Lake Washington and Mercer Island were all 10-2 in league, with Bellevue at 15-3 overall and Lake Washington at 14-4. Juanita sits at No. 7 with a 2-10 league record and 6-13 overall.
Details on seeding into the KingCo tournament will be provided once they are known.
The Juanita boys will play at Interlake on Thursday, Feb. 2 at 7:30 p.m. in the final game of the regular season, while the Kangs will play Mercer Island at home on Wednesday, Feb. 1 at 7 p.m. and will host Mount Si on Friday, Feb. 3 at 7:30 p.m. in the final game of the regular season.
