From July 30 to August 7, Studio East will present their Summer Teen Musical, Mamma Mia! at the Kirkland Performance Center, located at 350 Kirkland Avenue. Mamma Mia! will mark the 24th Summer Teen Musical performance for Studio East, which has been celebrated as an annual community event over the years.
“Mamma Mia! is the perfect show considering what we have all experienced these past two and a half years,” said Lani Brockman, director. “It’s joyous, full of hopes and dreams, takes place on a warm and sunny island, and is just plain fun to listen and dance to.”
Mamma Mia! is a musical from playwright Catherine Johnson, and is set on an enchanting Greek island. The musical is centered around 20-year-old Sophie, and on the eve of Sophie’s wedding, her quest to uncover her father’s identity brings three men from her mother’s past back to the island, which they last visited two decades prior.

Fifty students will perform in the musical that is filled with show-stopping dance numbers, songs from the 1970s pop group ABBA, and themes of love, laughter, and friendship.
Previous Summer Teen Musical performances featured guest stars in the cast, such as State Representative Amy Walen, who played the Mayor of Munchkinland in the 2016 Summer Teen Musical. This year, Walen will return as a show presenter of Mamma Mia!
“Studio East is a treasure we should all support!,” said Walen. “Their programming and productions are such an incredible value to all the kids who are involved, as they help create an essential pathway for kids in whatever they hope to do next.”
Mamma Mia! performances will run for two hours and will include an intermission. General admission tickets are $25. Show dates are:
- July 30 at 2:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.
- July 31 at 2:30 p.m.
- August 6 at 2:30 p..m. and 7:30 p.m.
- August 7 at 2:30 p.m.
