Led by a pair of solid pitching performances by Kirkland resident Sara Aasness, Pacific opened the 2014 softball season with a doubleheader sweep of Northwest at Sherman/Larkins Stadium last week.
The Boxers were dominant in the opener as Aasness and Maddie Collura combined for a two-hitter in a 21-1, five-inning rout. The Boxers punctuated the effort with an eight-run third inning that was capped by a two-run Kylee Oshiro home run.
Pacific had to rally from a 5-3 deficit in the nightcap, scoring one run in the fourth and two runs in the fifth, two of those scoring on hits by Ashley Mitchell of Redmond score the 6-5 victory.
With the victories, Pacific improves to 2-0. Northwest, NAIA members of the Cascade Collegiate Conference, falls to 0-2.
