The blotter feature is both a description of a small selection of police incidents and a statistical round-up of all calls to the Kirkland Police Department that are dispatched to on-duty police officers. The Kirkland Reporter police blotter is not intended to be representative of all police calls originating in Kirkland, which average about 1,000 per week.
Between Dec. 13-26, the Kirkland Police Department reported 908 traffic violations, 17 DUIs, 23 school zone traffic violations, four animal calls, 71 alarm calls, 15 noise complaints, two juvenile crimes, 21 calls of disturbance, 30 thefts, 30 car prowls, nine car thefts, 48 traffic accidents, 25 calls of civil disturbance, 17 reported burglaries, 25 domestic violence calls, 12 calls for harassment, five reports of illegal drugs, six alleged assaults, 19 acts of fraud, eight malicious mischief reports, two sex offenses, three suicides and one robbery. At least 68 people were arrested.
Dec. 23
Warrant: 5:19 p.m., 14300 block of Simonds Road NE. A 26-year-old man was arrested on a suspended license warrant after he was contacted while parked at the Juanita Villa. The man was also trespassed from the location because a citizen stated he had been coming to that location several days in a row to use the Wi-Fi.
Trespass: 6:25 p.m., 11400 NE 124th St. A 35-year-old woman was arrested for creating a disturbance at the Totem Lake West Starbucks. She refused to leave after being told by the manager and the officer involved.
Dec. 22
Theft: 5:40 p.m., 14444 124th Ave. NE. A 24-year-old man was arrested for stealing $500 of alcohol from the Kingsgate/Evergreen Hill Safeway. Police recovered 14 miscellaneous bottles of alcohol and one bottle of Coca-Cola.
Disorderly conduct: 12:30 a.m., 9736 NE 120th Place. A 24-year-old man was arrested for being loud and aggressive toward Juanita Pub staff. The man cracked a glass on the front door, banging it out of anger, and was verbally aggressive toward officers when asked to explain the situation. The man was also trespassed from Juanita Pub for one year.
Dec. 21
Assault: 6:50 p.m., 12440 NE 144th St. A 30-year-old man and known drug user, who allegedly suffers from mental emotional issues, was arrested at the Kingsgate McDonald’s after he lunged at the manager and began to wrestle him. The manager witnessed the man yell at a family and requested he leave the premises seven times. The man was still resisting after police arrived and he was “drive stunned” once before he was arrested.
Dec. 18
Domestic violence: 11:22 p.m., 8400 block of NE 128th St. A 40-year-old man was cited for a long history of unreported physical and mental abuse toward his girlfriend of eight years. The woman reported him after she was recently slapped in the head, and had her hair cut off after he grabbed her head. The woman sought a protection order before the man was due back from Japan before Christmas.
Theft: 9:35 p.m., 200 block of Central Way. A 24-year-old man was arrested after he was unable to pay his $46.30 cab fee and refused to make payment arrangements with the Yellow Cab driver. A preliminary breath test on the man revealed a .217.
Dec. 16
Theft: 12:30 p.m., 12400 block of NE 137th Place. Two men, ages 20 and 21, were arrested for stealing a package from a couple’s front porch. One of the men was caught on video tape stealing the package. Both later admitted to stealing the package to “feed their heroin habits.” A Beater Blade, a 20 pack of batteries and two LED flashlights were stolen.
Dec. 14
Domestic violence: 1:10 a.m., 300 block of Third Ave. S. A 49-year-old man was arrested for holding down his 31-year-old intoxicated wife because he didn’t want her to leave. The woman said he injured her back in the process.
Dec. 13
Assault: 1:49 a.m., 12000 block of NE 128th St. A 28-year-old man was cited for spitting and hitting hospital security staff at EvergreenHealth Medical Center.
Domestic violence: 7300 block of NE 141st Place. A 26-year-old man was taken into custody for punching his 21-year-old girlfriend in the face, causing her to bleed.
