The Kirkland Library will host “PeaceTrees Vietnam: Healing the land, building community, planting future” at 2 p.m. on April 12.

In Quang Tri province, Vietnam, a staggering 83 percent of the land is still riddled with unexploded landmines leftover from the war. PeaceTrees Vietnam is a Seattle-based, humanitarian demining organization that has been clearing land in the province for 18 years. They are recognized as a model in healing the land and improving lives in Central Vietnam.

Please join Director of External Affairs Bob Stokes and Founder and Trustee of the Purple Crayon Foundation Alyson McGregor, who will narrate the work of PeaceTrees and also share their personal experiences in working with this internationally respected organization.

Stokes was a founder and partner in the Seattle law firm Stokes Lawrence and Sr. Vice President of Mergers and Acquisitions at AT&T Wireless. Stokes has been volunteering his time with PeaceTrees Vietnam since 2007.

McGregor is a well-known Northwest philanthropist and gifted artist who has worked extensively with deaf students in Mexico and deaf and blind landmine victims in Vietnam.
