Linfield College forensics students participated in the second annual Krista Bacon-Vickery Memorial Forensics Tournament, hosted by Clark College in Vancouver, Wash. on Dec. 4-5.

Linfield was one of 11 schools from Oregon and Washington to compete in the event.

Freshman Megan Schwab of Boise, Idaho, and sophomore Amanda Bowers, of Kirkland, represented Linfield in the competition.

Schwab placed sixth in open extemporaneous speaking and Bowers received the bronze award in novice debate. The students were coached by Jackson Miller, director of forensics and associate professor of communication arts.

The tournament featured five rounds of debate in 11 individual events plus a special event, editorial commentary. The event gave students a chance to compete at a high level, according to Miller.

“Most of the students presented brand new events this weekend and I am proud of how they met the challenge of a tournament with very strong competition,” said Miller.
