Defending state champion Mercer Island gave first-year lacrosse coach Chris Long his second career win as the Islanders head coach, pulling away from 2015 boys Division II state runner-up Juanita for an 11–5 victory, Wednesday, at the Kirkland Lacrosse Center.

The Islanders were tested early but pulled away from the Rebels in the second half, delivering three third-quarter goals. MI then used its defense, a staple under former head coach Ian O’Hearn, to shut out the Rebels in the fourth quarter to secure the win.

Conor Campbell and Cade Alonzo led the Rebels, each with a pair of goals.

Juanita (2-1-0) next faces Inglemoor (0-3-0) at 3 p.m. tomorrow at the Kirkland Lacrosse Center.
