Regarding Dr. Tracy Peirce’s guest editorial in the Feb. 28 edition of the Kirkland Reporter: You state that you’re “…working to identify why a minority of people did not support the bond…” Please know that, from the perspective of myself and my coffee-shop buddies in downtown Kirkland, there were several reasons to not support the bond. Our foremost concern was that you asked for too much. Between the levies and the bond you were requesting nearly $1 billlion.

An additional concern was the enormous size of the Lake Washington School District. Most of us didn’t know that the district encompassed the furthest reaches of Redmond and the Sammamish Plateau. A common refrain was, ”why should homeowners in Finn Hill send money to the Plateau?”

We have noted that you’re “…actively working at the legislative level to try to get this changed so bonds can pass with 50-percent approval…” Please know that if we’d known that this was your attitude then we would have also voted no on the levies.

We would prefer that you work at the legislative level to split the district. You’d garner greater support for a bond if we could identify the school you’re proposing to rebuild.
