The blotter feature is both a description of a small selection of police incidents and a statistical round-up of all calls to the Kirkland Police Department that are dispatched to on-duty police officers. The Kirkland Reporter police blotter is not intended to be representative of all police calls originating in Kirkland, which average about 1,000 per week.
Between May 17-23, the Kirkland Police Department reported 484 traffic violations (seven DUIs), 22 traffic accidents, five animal calls, 30 alarm calls, 18 noise complaints, 15 calls of disturbance, 14 thefts, five car prowls, 12 calls of civil disturbance, four reported burglaries, eight domestic violence calls, five calls for harassment, two reports of illegal drugs, four alleged assaults, 10 acts of fraud and four malicious mischief reports. At least 37 people were arrested.
May 23
Weapons: 8:17 p.m., 11700 block of NE 60th St. Washington State Patrol responded to reports of a man pointing a gun at cars at an I-405 freeway bridge. However, state patrol determined the man was taking photos with a camera.
May 22
Obstruction: 11:40 p.m., 10800 block of NE 124th St. A 24-year-old man was taken into custody for not identifying himself and disobeying commands from a police officer. Police found drug paraphernalia after his arrest.
Trespass: 12:15 a.m., 7800 block of 132nd Ave. NE. A 23-year-old man was arrested for criminal trespass after a resident observed him lurking in a front yard. The man was uncooperative and had no explanation why he was on the property.
May 21
Assault: 3:30 p.m., 1800 block of First St. A 52-year-old man was arrested for assaulting an old family friend. The suspect showed up at the other man’s residence unannounced for the first time in 25 years and assaulted him. The reason was that his friend “is an alcoholic and needs to get his life together,” the police report said.
May 18
Domestic violence: 2:28 a.m., 5500 block of Lakeview Dr. Two brothers – a 24-year-old and a 21-year-old – were arrested for punching each other in the face.
May 17
Disturbance: 2:40 a.m., 200 block of Kirkland Ave. A 26-year-old woman was arrested after she walked into the Heathman Hotel intoxicated and out of control. The hotel manager reported the woman was speaking in a made-up language before she grabbed the manager’s lapel and head-butted her. The woman broke vases, goblets and coffee cups before exiting from the emergency exit, screaming profanities and that she was Wiccan in front of the hotel.
