Several towns and villages across the Puget Sound are facing evacuation orders as authorities tried to manage the threat of flooding from record-high rivers and creeks.

A warm front is moving through the area and is expected to drop as much as 20 inches of rainfall on southwest facing slopes of the Cascades by Thursday morning.

While Kirkland and much of the Eastside are expected to weather the effects of the storms, many roads leading east and north into the Snoqualmie Valley are cut-off by the fast rising waters. The National Weather Service is warning that the excessive rainfall could swell a number of urban streams and drive many rivers above flood stage, causing road closures and a potential danger of landslides. Storm total rainfall amounts are thought to be around 3 to 6 inches in the lowlands and 10 to 15 inches in the mountains.
