A driver suffered minor injuries this morning after his vehicle rolled over this morning on Juanita Drive due to icy conditions.
The man drove up the hill where the speed limit changes from 25 to 35 mph, west of Juanita Beach, “when he accelerated and shifted gears and hit a patch of ice,” said Kirkland Firefighter Bill Barnes, noting the car rolled over one to two times and landed on its wheels.
The driver was able to drive to the side of the road and get out of the vehicle. He was transported to EvergreenHealth hospital, where he was treated for neck and arm pain.
Barnes said firefighters were dispatched to several car accidents this morning in Kirkland and the icy conditions caused some of them. Fire officials are urging drivers to be vigilant of road conditions and take extra precautions as the region is expected to get some snow over the weekend.
“With these kinds of conditions it really is slick out and obviously the best thing to do is start off by making sure your tires aren’t in need of any maintenance and have plenty of tread,” added Barnes. “Expect the roads to be slick and slow down.”
