State job growth improves according to Federal Bureau of Labor Statistics

Nonfarm employment in Washington rose by 7,300 on a seasonally adjusted basis, from June 2014 through July 2014 according to preliminary estimates from the federal Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Nonfarm employment in Washington rose by 7,300 on a seasonally adjusted basis, from June 2014 through July 2014 according to preliminary estimates from the Federal Bureau of Labor Statistics. BLS estimates the private sector gained 9,400 jobs during the month and the public sector lost 2,100 jobs.

Similar estimates for the twelve months ending July 2014 indicate an increase in employment of 92,800 for the state.

The private sector added 88,600 jobs while the public sector gained an estimated 4,200 jobs over the year.

Washington’s preliminary seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for July 2014 is 5.6 percent. The revised estimated June 2014 unemployment rate was at 5.8 percent. The July 2013 unemployment rate was 7.0 percent.

BLS estimates of monthly job gains and losses are based on a survey of  businesses. Preliminary estimates are subject to revision.

June’s preliminary estimated gain of 9,100 jobs was revised to a gain of 13,600 jobs.
