State Rep. Cyrus Habib (D-Bellevue) announced May 20 that all seven members of the Bellevue City Council have endorsed his campaign for State Senate in the 48th Legislative District. Mayor Claudia Balducci and Deputy Mayor Kevin Wallace joined Councilmembers John Chelminiak, Conrad Lee, Jennifer Robertson, Lynn Robinson and John Stokes in endorsing Habib’s campaign to bring common sense and a focus on Eastside priorities to a State Senate mired in gridlock and dissent.

“I am very grateful to have the support of each Bellevue City Councilmember,” said Habib. “I believe they have each endorsed my campaign for State Senate because they know, even if we don’t always agree, I will always stand up for the best interests of Bellevue and The Eastside.”

Habib grew up in Bellevue, the son of immigrants, and graduated from Bellevue Public Schools. At age 8 he lost his sight to a rare form of childhood cancer, but went on to become a Rhodes Scholar at Oxford and a Yale Law School graduate, before returning to the Eastside to launch a legal career.

In 2012, Habib earned over 61 percent of the vote in his campaign for the State House and has since been named one of twelve legislators to watch this year nation-wide by Governing Magazine, and one of the Washington Post’s top 40 elected officials under 40-years-old.
