SR 520 bridge closed tonight to westbound drivers

Drivers wanting to reach Seattle tonight via State Route 520 should prepare for an overnight westbound closure of the floating bridge and highway.

The following is a release from the Washington State Department of Transportation:

Drivers wanting to reach Seattle tonight via State Route 520 should prepare for an overnight westbound closure of the floating bridge and highway. Contractor crews working for the Washington State Department of Transportation will use the closure to continue pouring concrete for columns on the new West Connection Bridge.

Crews will close one westbound lane of SR 520 from 92nd Ave. NE to Montlake Boulevard from 9-11 p.m. Thursday. At 11p.m., both westbound lanes will close. One westbound lane will reopen at 5 a.m. Friday with all SR 520 lanes open to drivers by 6 a.m.

This same closure of westbound SR 520 will occur every Thursday night/Friday morning through the end of May. During these overnight closures, crews will continue building concrete columns for the West Connection Bridge, a 1,330-foot-long interim connection from the new floating bridge now under construction to the existing SR 520 highway in Seattle. Working from the closed roadway lanes, crews will pump more than 25 truckloads of concrete into column forms just north of the existing bridge.

Other nighttime westbound and eastbound SR 520 lane closures

Drivers wishing to cross the SR 520 bridge in either direction also should prepare for overnight single-lane closures this spring as crews continue work on the West Connection Bridge.
