There are a lot of great kids in our community doing things to help those less fortunate than they are. They take their time and resources, and come together for a common cause.
It has become a tradition with the Juanita High School Key Club to have what is called a “Beard Brawl” every November in connection with “Movember,” also known as “No-Shave November.” It is a fun event in which Key Clubbers, teachers and Kiwanis members join together for a great cause.
The holiday season is in full swing in Kirkland with decorations and lights everywhere.
With Christmas approaching quickly, the Kiwanis Club of Kirkland is gearing up for their biggest fundraiser of the year. Since 1971, the club has sold Christmas trees, wreaths, gourmet nuts and See’s Candy with all funds going to support the children of the Kirkland community.
The Kiwanis Club of Kirkland (KCK) sponsored its annual Pancake Breakfast at the Kirkland Community Center at Parkplace on Memorial Day.
As the Kiwanis Club of Kirkland gears up for its May 23 Pancake Breakfast to be held the Peter Kirk Community Center from 7 a.m. to noon, local youth musicians are tuning up for the occasion. This is the third year that music has been part of the fun at the breakfast.
After being officially chartered in January by Kiwanis International, the Kiwanis Club of Kirkland (KCK) is pleased to announce the formation of the Kirkland Aktion Club. The purpose of the club is to help young adults with disabilities between the ages of 18-40.
Periodically, the Kiwanis Club of Kirkland (KCK) honors a person in our community for service he or she has given that goes above and beyond the call in helping make Kirkland better place to live.
During 1915 in Detroit, Michigan, a group of business-minded men got together and started a business networking organization. Soon after, they changed their focus to community service, helping children. That is when the first Kiwanis Club was established in the United States.
With all the bad press about our youth today, it was a delight and an honor to walk into a classroom at Juanita High School at 7:15 a.m. and see the room filled to capacity with about 50 high school students in all grade levels.
However, to a group of about 90 children in the Greater Puget Sound Area, the smiles are still on their faces and the love is still felt in their hearts from the experience they had at “camp.”
