Cobalt Mortgage recently awarded two Kirkland high school students a scholarship award.

Juanita High School student Matthew Stone received the Allison Lord Excellence in Community Service Scholarship Award. Also, Juanita High School student Conner Rusch received the The Murphy Family Scholarship Award.

Cobalt Mortgage Dollars for Scholars, a three-year-old nonprofit organization, partnered with individual donors, business partners, and Cobalt Mortgage employees in the creation of scholarships to help students pursue their post-secondary education goals.

This August, more than $115,000 in scholarship funds will be distributed to 80 deserving students in the states of Washington, Oregon, Nevada, Colorado, Arizona, Texas, Utah, and Oklahoma. That’s more than a two-fold increase over 2012 awards.

Individual donors and business partners contributed nearly $45,000, which was matched dollar-for-dollar by Cobalt Mortgage. The remainder of the funds came from employee donations and company contributions. The purpose of the company’s non-profit initiative is to make a positive impact on the youth and their families in the communities they serve.

“Once again, our partners have stepped up to show that helping kids succeed through higher education is a real priority,” said Keith Tibbles, president and co-founder of Cobalt Mortgage. “It’s our privilege to support a program that directly benefits our communities in such a positive way.”

Nationally, Cobalt Mortgage Dollars for Scholars and private donors have teamed up to award almost $180,000 in scholarships to students since the program’s founding in 2010.
