On June 27 it was announced how EvergreenHealth earned the Healthgrades 2022 Outstanding Patient Experience Award, making EvergreenHealth the only hospital in the Seattle-area to receive the award and be named one of Healthgrades America’s 50 Best Hospitals.
This new award places EvergreenHealth among the top 105 hospitals across the country when it comes to patient experience, according to Healthgrades, a marketplace that connects people with doctors and hospitals.
“Our commitment to leading with our patient-centered approach has been core to our mission, vision and values for the past 50 years,” said Jeff Tomlin, CEO of EvergreenHealth, MD. “Providing exceptional service is critical to achieving safe, high-quality care with great outcomes.”
Tomlin expressed how listening to patients and their families while communicating effectively go far in terms of creating a good patient experience. Tomlin also acknowledged how the latest recognition from Healthgrades reflects EvergreenHealth’s commitment to providing experiences that reduce stress and promote health.
For the patient experience analysis, Healthgrades evaluated 3,173 hospitals that submitted a minimum of 75 patient experience surveys to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) from July 2020 to March 2021. Out of the evaluated hospitals, 399 outperformed their peers, based on the patients’ responses, to achieve the Healthgrades 2022 Outstanding Patient Experience Award.
Performance was evaluated by applying a scoring methodology to ten patient experience measures, with survey questions focusing on patient perspectives of care in the hospital. The survey questions ranged from cleanliness and noise levels in patient rooms, to medication explanations and hospital staff responsiveness to patient needs. Additional measures include whether the patient would recommend the hospital to friends and family, on top of their overall hospital rating.
“We applaud all recipients of the Healthgrades 2022 Outstanding Patient Experience Award for putting patient experience at the front and center within their organizations,” said Brad Bowman, MD, CMO and Head of Data Science at Healthgrades. “We commend these hospitals for their ongoing commitment in prioritizing an exceptional patient experience while ensuring the health and safety of their patients.”
Earlier this year, EvergreenHealth was Washington’s only public hospital district to be recognized as one of America’s 50 Best Hospitals by Healthgrades, which placed it among the top 1% of hospitals in the nation for clinical outcomes.
EvergreenHealth was also the highest-ranked hospital for stroke care in Healthgrades’ State Ranking Analysis for 2022, and was also ranked the highest hospital in the Seattle area for critical and pulmonary care.
