Warren Jewelers celebrates 40 years in business this month.
Warren Jewelers has been part of the Kirkland community since March of 1973 when Ralph Warren opened the jewelry store inside the newly developed Totem Lake Shopping Mall in Kirkland.
This was one of the worst economic times in the history of the greater Seattle area. The economy was so bad at that time there was a billboard put up just outside the city limits that read, “Will the last person to leave Seattle please turn off the lights.”
Warren Jewelers not only made it through that difficult time but grew and built itself an outstanding reputation for quality and service. In 1983, Mark Osborn came to work as a beginning associate for Mr. Warren and worked his way up to store manager. While working with Warren, Osborn studied with the Gemological Institute of America and is a graduate gemologist. In April of 1991, upon the Warren’s retirement, Osborn purchased the company. Shortly after that, the decision was made to add an on-site goldsmith to the company’s staff.
Osborn uses his knowledge of gems to purchase large quantities of diamonds and loose colored stones and with the help of staff, salespeople, designers and goldsmiths, Warren Jewelers manufactures their own jewelry. The business sells both retail and wholesale to other jewelers and provides expert advice on appraisals and helps its customers with their jewelry insurance claims.
In November 2002, Warren Jewelers expanded and opened up a second location in Burlington, Wash. In November of 2003, the Kirkland store moved out of Totem Lake Malls to Totem Lake West where it currently stands.
In keeping their eye on the future, business officials have acquired new technology with a laser welder and added computer-aided jewelry design.
