Cannons have no place in Kirkland parade | Letter

I just read the article about the cannon noise created by the Seafair Pirates.

I just read the article about the cannon noise created by the Seafair Pirates. I’m no fan of the Seafair Pirates for all kinds of reasons. Pirates have never been the “good guys.” Playing as pirates may be fun for these adult men but I think it’s just an excuse to dress up and act brashly.

But that’s not my point in writing. Given the Boston Marathon disaster and other reasons why people in public places might be afraid and scared about sudden loud noises, I see absolutely no good reason for the Seafair Pirates to go firing cannons.

Further, as “pretend” weapons (of war), I think the cannons have no place in a city parade.
