Council made sensible decision on casino

I have to disagree with Ilene Kuhn’s letter, “Council Short Sighted With Casino Decision” in the July 22 Kirkland Reporter. While I am no fan of casinos and gambling, the council made the right, sensible decision when it grandfathered the casino in the Kingsgate area. The business already exists, and therefore does not change the current Kingsgate community. Allowing it to stay open not only provides revenue (which city governments so desperately need now), it also provides jobs. Better it be grandfathered and collect the estimated $1 million in taxes than to close, have a vacant large building left behind (think Totem Lake Mall.)
