I am writing to express my displeasure and disgust at the city of Kirkland for giving me a parking citation on the Columbus Day holiday.

I had dinner at the Wilde Rover, and although I usually park at the library and walk, I have a broken foot and was unable to walk that far so I parked behind the restaurant.

My calendar said Oct. 14 was a holiday, my bank was closed in observance of the holiday and I got no mail that day. The parking sign said no payment is needed on Sundays and holidays. The parking money collector didn’t have any signage as to which days Kirkland considers holidays, so I didn’t pay the lousy $3 and went to the restaurant, only to return to my vehicle with a $35 fine.

Rest assured that next time I wish to dine out I will drive to nearby Bellevue, where there is plenty of hassle-free parking. If the city of Kirkland is so ticket happy, then business will fail due to no fault of their own.
