First of all, I would like to sincerely thank Reporter for publishing my letter on the same day that celebrity star Drew Carey’s appearance was featured on your front page. Mr. Carey, for those of your dear readers who are unaware, is a libertarian who frequently appears on Reason.tv in his own Drew Carey Project. I recommend it highly for those of an open mind. The thought that Mr. Carey may have been shown your paper and had a chance to glance at my poor letter for me is a really big thrill. I’m going to preserve my copy of the March 31st edition and show it to my grandchildren, supposing my kids ever get around to that kind of thing some day.
Secondly, I hope that the word “Star” is added to the newspaper’s name, as it truly is a star in my opinion. Put a big golden star in the masthead with rays of light streaming out from it. The Reporter is a star in my estimation for having the nerve to stand up for freedom of the press when a few letter writers seem to have a firmly negative opinion of that. Perhaps they are some kind of radical fringe? Most folks are happy to see a range of opinion and those readers who find free expression of political opinion personally distasteful thankfully can’t muzzle newspaper publishers.
Again, my gratitude to the Kirkland “Star” Reporter.
Miles F. Holden, Kirkland
