On Feb. 8, the evening snow hit Seattle and the Eastside, I was driving home at 11:30 p.m. from work. Having never driven in snow before, apprehension and fear came to me.
I made it three-quarters of the way home when I drove up on 108th Ave. NE, a large hill heading into a residential area of Kirkland. At the steepest part of the hill my wheels started to slip and I knew I could not go any further. At that point of the road it is one lane and I did not know how to maneuver my car any further.
At that point, as my car was headed to the right side of the curb, I saw a couple walking down the hill. They had chains, offered to put it under my from tires and pushed me. They stayed with me for about 15 minutes. They were kind and encouraged me, as I’m sure they saw the panic in my eyes.
I neglected to get their names. They were my guardian angels, as what are the odds they would be walking down that hill at 11:30 p.m.? I am forever grateful for their kindness and help. If they are reading this, thank you.
