Kirkland Lacrosse program needs more field area | LETTER

Today the new hot sport is lacrosse, the number of interested kids is increasing at huge rates, but unfortunately the number of suitable practice fields is not.

Kirkland has always been a town that has supported sports and recreation. Traditionally, we have been known for super high quality little league baseball and massive involvement in youth soccer, but we also support everything from kayak water polo to ultimate frisbee in our public parks.

Today the new hot sport is lacrosse, the number of interested kids is increasing at huge rates, but unfortunately the number of suitable practice fields is not.

In fact, without more fields the lacrosse program will have to turn away some of the kids who want to play.

To fix this Kirkland Lacrosse is working with King County to take an existing field that is unusable most of the year because of poor drainage, and make it into a nice new usable field.

I don’t ever remember when I was growing up in Kirkland hearing about a sports program turning away interested kids. I think it would be unconscionable if we didn’t give our kids the same opportunities we had growing up.

I hope everyone lets King County and the Kirkland City Council know that they support this field renovation. Our kids need a place to play.
