In regard to Jon Meads’ letter in support of single payer health care, he has a much higher opinion of the government’s management of Medicare than I.
It is well known that Medicare is on the verge of bankruptcy. Many care providers will not accept Medicare patients because of its poor payments. (I must travel to a neighboring town for one specialist’s care.) Just offhand, I can think of four people whose health providers notified them that they would no longer be accepting traditional Medicare coverage, and the government is currently planning to phase out Medicare Advantage, which is privately run for profit. With a record like this, who could trust our government to manage a single payer system for everyone?
